Palau de la Música Catalana

Where can you see your favorite classical music stars in the glow of the southern sun? At Barcelona’s Art Nouveau landmark concert hall, Palau de la Música Catalana! The stained glass central skylight of the Palau is just one of the architectural details that make a concert here a delight to the eyes as well as the ears.

The world’s top performers appear on the stage of this UNESCO World Heritage Site, and for several concerts this month, Classictic is offering tickets at a 25 % discount. All the more reason to plan a visit. And, to really savor the experience, you can take a guided tour of the hall before the concert. Your Classictic e-Ticket gives you a 20% discount on the price of the tour. So, if you are lucky enough to have Barcelona on your April agenda, here are a few events on the top our our dream list.

Russian Master

Grigory Sokolov’s recital at the Palau promises a multitude of Romantic pleasures. With Schumann and Chopin on the program, the audience will have ample opportunity to appreciate the Russian pianist’s intensity and virtuosity. (Did you know that Grigory Sokolov is an expert in piano mechanics and frequently spends hours ensuring the proper adjustment of an instrument before he performs?)

Echos of Winter

Baritone Matthias Goerne is the leading performer of Lieder today. When he sings Schubert’s “Winterreise” at the Palau this month, the bleak desperation of the Romantic story will be echoed with contemporary imagery. South African artist William Kentridge created video projections that make this a multimedia experience.

Bach to Basics

Isabelle Faust has received overwhelming critical acclaim for her recordings of Bach’s complete sonatas and partitas. Leaving behind the dramatic limelight of the concerto repertoire, the award-winning German violinist appears at the Palau this month performing Bach’s exquisite compositions on her 1704 Stradivarius.
